Instances of youth violence persist without respite as a group of young individuals find themselves in need of medical treatment for injuries, including a collapsed lung resulting from an altercation at a shopping center.
According to sources, this incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 28, near Friars Hill Road. A police constable alerted his colleagues at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) about a brawl involving several underage individuals near the Cost Pro Supermarket at Woods Centre. Allegedly, one of the minors sustained a stab wound to his back during the altercation.
Consequently, multiple officers proceeded to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre. There, the constable encountered a 15-year-old resident of Fort Road in the vicinity of Woods Centre, who displayed two visible stab wounds on the left side of his back and a laceration on his left hand. The teenager was unable to provide details about the incident. However, after receiving stabilization from Emergency Medical Technicians, he was transported to the Emergency Room via the Emergency Medical Service.
Hospital doctors reported that the teenager had experienced a collapsed left lung and was being prepared for surgery.
Following the incident, the police interviewed a 17-year-old resident of Bathlodge in the presence of his father at the hospital. Allegedly, he confessed to stabbing the Fort Road teenager while defending his sister.
According to reports, the stabbing victim, along with two other boys, had thrown stones at the accused and his 15-year-old sister as they were leaving the Caribbean Cinemas compound. However, a physical altercation ensued when they reached Woods Mall, resulting in the 15-year-old being stabbed after purportedly striking the older teenager with a 2 x 4 wooden plank.
Consequently, the 17-year-old sustained lacerations on his left hand and left shoulder, which exhibited visible swelling. His sister also sustained a laceration on her left wrist.
All three teenagers were provided with police medical forms, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
