A patient came to the aid of the doctor sister of Curtin MP Kate Chaney when she was allegedly attacked by an axe-wielding man at her medical practice in North Perth on Thursday morning.
In a statement, Anna Chaney thanked emergency services and the patient for their efforts during the attack that left her in hospital with serious injuries.
“I would like to thank the police, ambulance staff and my colleagues at View St for their support after this incident,” she said.
“I would especially like to thank my patient, who bravely assisted me.
“I am in a stable condition and am being well looked after.”
Police said they were called to the View Street Medical centre this morning following reports that a man armed with a bladed weapon had entered the centre.
“On arrival, a man aged in his 50s was taken into custody and is now assisting with inquiries,” a WA Police spokesman said
“A woman received injuries during the incident and was taken to hospital for treatment.”
Police urged anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers.
