Police have charged a man over the death of a popular Perth events promoter at a home in the city’s inner south on Monday night.
Emergency services were called to the Pitt Street property in Kensington at 7.15pm in relation to concerns about a woman’s welfare.
Upon arrival, police officers found an 51-year-old Andy Scally unresponsive, but attempts to revive him failed, and he died at the scene.
The woman, 48, was located nearby, unharmed.
Jardyn Rigo, 39, was arrested at the scene and later charged with intent to harm. He faced court on Wednesday, where his lawyer’s application to have Rigo’s identity suppressed was refused by a magistrate.
While under police guard in hospital, the Rigo is also accused of attempting to escape custody and assaulting and obstructing public officers.
Scally was well-known in Perth’s nightlife scene as the man behind the Limelite events company.
He brought international electronic music acts to Perth and Western Australia, and championed local DJs and other Australian acts at clubs and festivals.
WA Police Commissioner Col Blanch told Radio 6PR the trio involved in the incident were known to each other, but their exact relationship has not yet been established.
“Investigations are ongoing, we’re trying to work out the circumstances of how this person came to be deceased,” he said.
“We believe there was a physical assault, but we do not know the cause of death.”
