Arsenal news: Gunners set "serious" target as Leandro Trossard discusses transfer

Arsenal can put Premier League duties to one side when they take on Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday but talk has already begun over their next top flight encounter with Liverpool this weekend.

A club legend has now set the Gunners a target to show just how “serious” they are about a title charge this season. Elsewhere, Brighton & Hove Albion’s Leandro Trossard has spoken out about a potential transfer amid links to Arsenal, while William Saliba has been told that he has “exposed” one of his teammates this season.

Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest stories coming out of the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal set “serious” target

Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes that the Gunners have to beat Liverpool on Sunday to prove they are "serious" about competing for the Premier League title this season.

Mikel Arteta's side sit top of the table following Saturday’s North London derby victory over Tottenham Hotspur, having emerged as the surprise frontrunners this season, leaving them one point clear of second-placed Manchester City. But Wright feels they have to follow that up with another victory against one of the top sides in the league this weekend.

Wright told Premier League productions: "What I saw of Liverpool [against Brighton], this is the time to play them. So Arsenal, with the belief, everyone is buzzing, no injuries at the moment, this is the type of game where, at home, they've got to go and beat Liverpool if we're serious about trying to get where we want to be, which is the top four and pushing Man City as much as you can."

Leandro Trossard discusses transfer

Brighton forward Trossard hasn't ruled out the possibility of leaving Brighton amid links to Arsenal and Chelsea over a potential move in the January transfer window.

The 27-year-old continued his fine start to the season with a hat-trick in the Seagulls' 3-3 draw with Liverpool on Saturday and, following his sublime treble, hinted that he wouldn't rule out a move away from the south coast within the next year - presenting his club with a headache ahead of January.

Speaking to the BBC's Monday Night Club, Trossard has suggested he could leave Brighton if the right club comes calling. He said: "It’s difficult to say anything about that now, it completely depends on which club would come. If I feel good and things are good on a private level… but I also know how good I am at Brighton, also with new coach Roberto De Zerbi it looks promising.”

William Saliba told he has “exposed” teammate

Jermaine Jenas has lauded Arsenal defender Saliba following his stunning start to life in the Premier League this season, but has warned his centre back partner Gabriel Maghaeles that he needs to step up his game after being "exposed" by the young Frenchman.

The 21-year-old has won plenty of plaudits for his performances for the Gunners so far this campaign, helping them to the top of the table, but rather than just focusing on Saliba's excellence, Jenas claimed he has actually shown up his defensive partner in recent weeks.

Speaking to Vibe with Five, Jenas said: "I just feel like Saliba has elevated the level that it’s just exposed Gabriel a little bit. He’s [Gabriel] still very good, he’s still a very good centre-half. But all of a sudden you’re looking at Saliba and you’re going, ‘we need another one of you’. He’s [Gabriel] still doing his job, he made a big impact last year.”
