Bake Off fans puzzled as Paul Hollywood says Bread Week showstopper is 'too bready'

Great British Bake Off viewers were left puzzled on Tuesday night by a remark judge Paul Hollywood made to a baker.

Dawn was left deflated during Bread Week, as Paul wasn't impressed by her showstopper during the final part of the show.

Paul described the cake-like bake as being "too bready", and suggested the flavours didn't taste as they should.

He said: "Dried mince, sesame seed, coriander. All these key flavours that in Greece, is well known. It's about identifying the flavours and it's too bready as well."

Dawn said after: "Bread week has been an embarrassment. I think I am at the bottom of the pile this week, I am quite concerned."

But viewers had Dawn's back, sharing their bemusement over Paul's comment about it being "too bready".

Taking to Twitter, viewers wanted to remind the judge that it was in fact Bread Week, so the bakes should have been "bready".

One viewer said: "It’s too bready?!? It’s bread Paul…"

Another tweeted: "'Too bready' for bread week. Really Paul?"

A third added: "‘too bready’ funny that… making bread that tastes like bread.. on bread week."

It comes as viewers were divided, as there was no elimination in the episode despite some disastrous bakes.

As judges Paul and Prue Leith sat down to work out who to send home, there were three names tipped to be the unlucky baker.

Carole, Kevin and Dawn were all facing the chop on Tuesday night, as the pair debated who should stay and who should go.

But as hosts Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding gathered the bakers in the tent to reveal who was leaving then and there, they soon dropped a surprise bombshell.

The bakers were relived as the hosts confirmed that in a twist, no one would be sent home this week after two other hopefuls had to miss Bread Week.

Matt revealed: "Well this week nobody is going home. The judges felt that given the quality here and the fact Rebs and Abdul aren’t here, everybody deserves the chance to bake again."

Many viewers were thrilled, believing it would not have been fair to send home one of the group when two of them had not taken part in the bake.

But others were annoyed at the twist, believing someone still should have been axed from the show.

The Great British Bake Off airs Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 4.
