'Beautiful' school girl, 15, stabbed to death in Hexham named as tributes flood in

A 15-year-old girl who was tragically killed in a stabbing has been named following an attack which police are currently investigating.

Holly Newton, 15, was named locally by friends and described as a "beautiful" girl as members of the public paid tribute to the youngster who died on Friday, January 27.

Tributes and flowers were left at the scene of the stabbing in Hexham, Northumberland, with close relatives and friends leaving an array of bouquets on Priestpopple.

A fundraiser has since been launched to aid the family following the death of Holly, who was also known as Holly Olivia, and has already surpassed its £3,000 target.

Northumberland Police detailed the investigation, in a series of tweets which read: "A murder investigation has been launched after a 15-year-old girl tragically died following a suspected assault in #Hexham.

"Shortly after 5.10 pm on Friday police were alerted by ambulance service to a report of a teenage boy & girl injured in the Priestpopple area.

"Emergency services attended where the boy and girl – aged 16 and 15 – suffered serious injuries consistent with having been caused by a bladed article. Sadly, despite best efforts of hospital staff, the girl passed away later that evening.

"Both of their families are being supported by specially-trained officers at this devastating time. Our thoughts are with all loved ones at this awful time, and we are supporting them in every way we can."
