Burglar freezes at top of ladder after being caught stealing from attic during raid

This is the moment a burglar freezes at the top of a ladder after being caught stealing from an attic during a late-night raid.

Ruben Guevara, 46, from Texas, US, had entered a home which was undergoing construction works when he was caught stealing by two police officers on Sunday night at around 11pm.

The burglar, who was already arrested two weeks ago for trying to steal metal, is seen in pictures and video posted by Bellaire Police Department, on a ladder coming down from the attic.

On the police's Facebook account they posted praise from homeowner who thanked authorities for catching Guevara.

Bellaire Police Department wrote: "Shout out to our wonderful Bellaire Police and Fire Departments for their fast response. Last night around 11:00 pm (Sunday) our cameras detected a person in our new construction.

"BPD showed right away and found the burglar hiding in the attic and arrested him. We can't thank you enough!!!"

Guevara can be seen on top of a ladder on the second floor which is jut underneath a hole in the attic.

Two officers headed up the staircase and pointed a light at Guevara - who was left stunned.

In another picture the suspect appears in handcuffs after being led away from the garage by officers.

Police don't believe Guevara was squatting but instead trying to steal air conditioning parts which were found at the scene.

He was charged with a felony count of burglary of a building.

The suspect was arrested on the work site on Oleander Street and his bond was set at at $20,000 (£16,300).

If the suspect's bond is met he will be ordered to house arrest with the use of an ankle monitor, which will track his movements after being instructed to stay away from the homeowner's property.

Guevara appeared at County Probable Cause Court on Monday morning where his previous charges were read along with his current charge.

He was arrested just a few weeks ago on November 17 for the theft of metal.

In addition, he had previous convictions in Harris County which date back to 1993 involving either burglary or metal theft.

There were 18 previous convictions read out by the judge including his arrest in November where he used a crowbar and metal pilers to try and steal an AC unit.
