Cameron Carter Vickers leaves dad in tears as Celtic star's World Cup moment prompts emotional response

Cameron Carter-Vickers has left his family bursting with pride at his World Cup bow - so much so the Celtic defender's dad was left in tears.

The 26-year-old made one appearance in a triumphant win over Iran which booked a last 16 spot for the USA, which eventually ended in a 3-1 loss against Netherlands. It was the centre-back's only outing at the major tournament in Qatar but that was more than enough for dad Howard Carter, who was a basketball player.

His accomplishments come as no surprise to his family but that doesn't mean they haven't been packed with emotion, Carter-Vickers having won the Premiership and League Cup since joining Celtic from Tottenham in 2021. Dad Howard told WAFB : "He was around 16 when I realised he just might make it on the professional level. He got the most attention and most recognition from his peers by playing soccer, so that’s why he chose soccer.

"It actually brought tears to my eyes (his son playing at the World Cup). I told him to just be grateful that you got that opportunity.

"Some players never get that opportunity. Some guys go their whole career without having to play in the World Cup. We’re happy with what he’s done."
