Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Jermell Charlo will go head to head in Las Vegas tonight, in a clash of undisputed champions.
Canelo puts his super-middleweight titles on the line against the younger Charlo twin, who is undisputed at super-welterweight. Mexican Canelo was originally expected to face Jermall Charlo here, but the WBC middleweight champion’s two-year absence from the ring continues instead – amid injuries and personal issues.
Canelo, 33, enters the T-Mobile Arena on the back of successful title defences against John Ryder in May and Gennady Golovkin 12 months ago. Alvarez beat Ryder via decision in Mexico, having beaten old rival Golovkin by the same means at the T-Mobile Arena.
Before capping off his trilogy with Golovkin, Canelo suffered the second loss of his career: a points defeat by Dmitry Bivol in May 2022, while challenging the Russian for his light-heavyweight title. That fight took place a week before Charlo’s most recent bout, a stoppage win over Brian Castano. With that victory, Charlo, 33, improved upon his previous result, a draw with Castano in July 2021.

Canelo splits the guard with a jab. Charlo catches the Mexican on the end of his own jab.
Canelo comes forward and attacks the body, but Charlo fires back with a couple of clean hooks upstairs!

Canelo really looks like he has a point to prove tonight.
Great step-in left hook to the body by the defending champion. And again. Charlo with an uppercut to the body in response.

Canelo jabs to the head then spears a right cross to the body. Now a mean right hook to the mid-section. You could really hear that one.
Charlo sticks behind his jab and again looks for that left hook. He’s also trying to hold Canelo as much as possible when the Mexican gets close.
Good head movement from Canelo to slip off the centre line then land a hard right hand. Charlo with a well-timed jab now.
Harsh overhand right from Canelo, who is marching down Charlo. Quick lead left hook from Canelo to the temple of Charlo, then a clean jab.
Canelo goes back to the body. He is FIRMLY in control so far.

Charlo uses his jab to keep Canelo at range in the opening seconds of this round.
Canelo soon backs him up again, however, and goes to the well with a right hook once more. He seems content to batter the lead arm of Charlo. It’s a tactic that Canelo has used quite a lot in recent fights.
Charlo lets go with a trio of straight shots upstairs, then a left hook to the body. Nice work. Canelo fires back with a right to the body.
The Mexican holds Charlo in a headlock briefly, as the fighters clinch. And again.
Well-timed left hook to the liver from Canelo, who then goes high with a right hook! This is great work from the defending champion.
Charlo throws a jab and follows up rapidly with a step-in left hook, which lands around Canelo’s guard.

Both men stand orthodox. Charlo is quick to take the centre of the ring. There’s nothing thrown through the first 30 seconds, bar a teasing jab from Charlo.
Lots of subtle movements from both fighters, though. Charlo with another jab, but Canelo covers up. Now the Mexican comes forward, blocking another jab.
Canelo misses with a wild left hook to the body, which puts him off balance, as Charlo is backed up to the ropes.
Boos ring out at the midway point of the round due to a lack of activity from the boxers.
This time Canelo does land the left hook to the body, after blocking yet another jab. He lets go with a double-jab, then a hard right hand that Charlo blocks. The American is struggling to get into space now.
