Carl Froch accuses Jake Paul of backing out of fight with ex-world champion

Ex-world champion Carl Froch has claimed YouTube star Jake Paul backed out of a fight between the pair after a public spat between the pair.

Paul, 5-1 as a professional boxer, has often claimed that he would be willing to face Froch in a showdown if the former fighter were willing to do a tune-up fight in America to reignite his public profile. But now the ex-unified super middleweight champion has claimed that his rival scrapped the fight altogether.

Froch has flirted with the idea of a ring return at the age of 45, almost a decade after his famous rematch with George Groves that packed out Wembley Stadium. But he would only do it for a crossover exhibition, admitting that he would struggle with even a light-heavyweight contender like Callum Smith.

"I wouldn’t box again in a professional capacity," he told talkSPORT. “But I don’t consider a fight with somebody like Jake Paul a professional boxing match. It’s almost like a white collar fight for me. I could get in there, take my time, just have a good time, have a bit of fun and make a bucket load of money.

“It’s very low risk and very high reward, so I’d definitely take one of them sort of fights... Jake Paul piped up and started giving me some stick, I answered him back and then he went quiet. He said he wants me to fight Anderson Silva and I said, ‘I’ll fight Anderson Silva and you on the same night.’

“He realised. When he lost to Tommy Fury, I think he realised he don’t belong in the professional boxing ring with professional boxers because he’s not good enough. But fair play to him, he’s making money, he’s doing what he’s doing.”

Froch was a part of the UK broadcast for Paul's last outing against Fury, and clips of him watching the eight-rounder horrified by the skill on display went viral on social media. And the YouTuber isn't the only one non-boxer he's interested in facing - he has a constant feud ongoing with UFC legend Conor McGregor as well.

“I’d probably have a roll around with Conor McGregor,” Froch continued. “I’d like Conor McGregor to get into the boxing ring because he’s running his mouth a bit lately. And he’s got Eddie Hearn cheerleading him in the background, laughing at every crap joke he cracks, that’s getting a bit boring to listen. I think that’d be a good fight."

The incident he's referring to was a media scrum the Irishman did in Dublin during Katie Taylor vs Chantelle Cameron fight week. When asked if he would fight Carl Froch, the Irishman who has blasted his rival in the past, simply mimicked slapping the camera and declared that is what he would do to the boxer.
