Connor Goldson is victim of Rangers hatchet job and ex refs should take off green-tinted specs – Hotline

Leeds me not into temptation could have been the cry from Celtic fans praying Ange Postecoglou doesn’t hot foot it down to Elland Road. Then again, there are some who think he couldn’t cut it down there anyway.

And ex-referees Steve Conroy and Des Roache comments on their Podcast about Connor Goldson haven’t gone down too well either. Let’s start with Big Ange and Leeds then. George Lawson emailed: “I’d like to point out to all the delusional supporters of the 'BIG' Two in the wee league in Scotland that surely a chance at EPL management is way above a two horse race in SPFL. Or is it just an ego trip for anyone managing the 'BIG Two'.

Paul McCormack, Coatbridge, said: “Is Michael Beale in the running for the Leeds job, given that he’s worked down south before & is widely praised as some kind of messiah for scraping several wins in a row at Rangers? Or is it just the serial trophy winner in Australia, China and Scotland. Just wondering...”

Ben Casey emailed: “I had to laugh at Dave Knox’s comments. Not about Big Ange’s record in Europe but the fact he said he won’t be able to buy his way to victory. As has been well documented recently, Ange has more or less broken even on sales and transfers, and as we all know, buying your way to titles with money that doesn’t belong to you or don’t have only ends up one way.”

But Joe Sneddon emailed: “Chris Sutton says Big Ange will stay. Aye right, he just has to look across the great divide and see The Beale juggernaut pulling up trees with no money. Big Ange’s tea is oot and like Rodgers will jump before he’s pushed.”

But Alan Flett emailed: “Celtic fans have no need to worry about their precious manager upping sticks for Leeds, or any other club. Whenever Postecoglou steps out from his SPL comfort zone, his naive style of play and tactical ineptitude are brutally exposed. Leeds will end up in the Championship if they appoint Postecoglou.”

Alan’s contribution should make Frank McKenna happy. He said: “The majority of hotliners are funny with their quotes but Alan Flett is in a class of his own. I’ve never heard so much absolute nonsense this guy comes out with. He has me in hysterics. Keep it up Alan!”

Onto the Goldson handball(s) debate and Chris Lowe, Yoker, said: “Had to laugh at the hatchet job on Connor Goldson by ex-refs over the non awarding of penalties which despite all being correct by the rule book continue to have the usual suspects foaming at the mouth. What about the biggest non award this season to date, the one that Kilmarnock were denied by Column and gifted Celtic a place in the cup final? I must have missed the two Celtic supporting ex referees’ opinions on that one.”

And Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, added: “Ex Scottish top flight referee and admitted Celtic fan Steve Conroy has indicated he should never have been allowed to officiate as the man obviously doesn’t know the IFAB laws of the game. His senseless comments regarding balls striking Goldson’s hands don’t make sense if he was meant to be educated enough to officiate football matches. His biased wrong comments on IFAB rules should be investigated as should all matches he has officiated and fees he’s earned should be paid back. Opinions are one thing but slanderous bias is another. He is still trying to influence games.”

But Harry Fitzpatrick, Hamilton, Ontario, emailed: “All the talk this week is about Rangers goalkeeping situation, why all the fuss? They have Goldson as a reliable backup.”
