Cyclist dies after being 'hit by van' on Glasgow road as cops launch probe

A cyclist has died after reportedly being hit by a car on a Glasgow road.

Emergency services raced to the A806, Initiative Road, Kirkintilloch, at around 10.30am on Friday, June 9 after reports of an incident involving a van and a pedestrian.

The 50-year-old man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The 62-year-old male driver of the van was arrested in connection with road traffic offences and released pending further enquiries.

The road was closed whilst cops investigated and reopened at around 6.05pm.

Sergeant Adnan Alam of Road Policing Unit in Glasgow said: “I am appealing for anyone with information regarding this incident to contact us.

“This is a busy road, and we know there were other road users on Initiative Road at the time of this road crash. Anyone that has not already spoken with, or contacted police is asked to make contact with us.

“In particular, I would ask any motorists with dash-cams who were in and around that area to check the footage as it may have captured images that could assist in our investigation.”

Anyone with information is urged to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 1118 of 9 June, 2023.
