Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa named as Scotland’s most influential creative person

Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa has been named Scotland’s most influential creative person by The List. The magazine’s Hot 100 guide returned this year after a three-year hiatus and has honoured the biggest names in Scottish arts and culture.

Gatwa, who is gearing up to replace Jodie Whitaker in Doctor Who next year, has said it's a massive moment for him. "This feels so full circle. I’m an Edinburgh boy, I grew up here so being featured in The List’s Hot 100 is an honour," he said.

"This is one of the many things that in the past six months specifically just made my inner child, the younger Ncuti, very, very happy.”

Brian Donaldson, editor of The List magazine, said: “The Hot 100 is our chance to celebrate the 100-plus people who are thriving in our galleries, cinemas, theatres, comedy clubs, restaurants and shops, as well as those we’ve loved to listen to, watch or read.

“We won’t claim that the Hot 100 is perfect, but as a barometer for what’s exciting about Scottish culture, we believe we’ve got it largely spot on.”

Paisley singer Paolo Nutini ranked at number 100 - but singing superstar Lewis Capaldi missed out on the line-up completely. The snub comes on the same day he released new track Pointless.

Others who made the list include the likes of comedian Kevin Bridges, chef Dean Banks, TikTok star Paul Black, actress Marli Siu, author Douglas Stewart, and director Charlotte Wells.
