Double tragedy as woman killed in hit-and-run just months after son died in crash

A woman has been killed in a hit-and-run just six months after losing her son in a similar incident.

Kelly Hagan was hit as she crossed the road a few steps behind some friends of hers. According to a witness she was hit so hard it knocked her out of her shoes.

The person driving didn't make any attempt to stop according to reports and the 59-year-old died on the scene in Winter Haven, Florida.

The tragedy for the family was made all the worse because it's the second loved one they've lost to a road accident this year.

Kelly's 29-year-old son Andrew was hit by a car and killed in June in Philadelphia.

Kelly's daughter, Ashley Grabowski, described the pain of losing the two of them so close together as unimaginable.

She said: “She had so many things to continue doing and she was so happy and to just take that from somebody, it's not fair.

“She did a lot growing up, she would pretty much take in any kid that needed a meal or a roof over their head."

Kelly's husband Harold Hagan was there when it happened and has been left reeling by the loss of his wife.

He told FOX : "She didn’t deserve to be hit and run over. The guy (or woman) didn’t even attempt to stop. There were no skid marks or nothing."

In a stern message to the driver, Harold said: "Quit cowering and hiding like a coward."

Harold and Kelly had got married only this year, two weeks after Andrew's death.

Kelly was crossing Lake Howard Drive with her friends on her way to the local Christmas boat parade. They had been hanging out by the lake, according to Harold.

Investigators have released the description of the vehicle that hit her - a silver Dodge Caliber with Virginia number plates.

Debbie Mason, one of Kelly's closest friends, said: "I can’t fathom somebody hitting someone, and just keep going. I can’t fathom that she is gone.

"I just feel like I am walking through a nightmare, and somebody should wake me up."
