EastEnders latest: Lauren Branning returns after four years for Dot Cotton’s funeral; plus Corrie & Emmerdale news

EASTENDERS' icon Lauren Branning is making a very special reappearance on the show as she returns for Dot Cotton's funeral.

Jacqueline Jossa was snapped outside Elstree Studios as she reprises her iconic role of Lauren Branning, as well as other members of the Cotton and Branning families for emotional goodbyes to Dot Cotton.

Legendary Dot Cotton will have her official send off, after actress June Brown died on 3 April this year, aged 95.

Lauren Branning actress Jacqueline told The Sun she is "more than happy to come back," as she films for the winter episode of Dot's funeral.

A source told the Mirror: "Without giving anything away the script is beautiful and what she [June Brown] would have wanted. It was an incredibly hard couple of days on set as she was so loved."

    Since leaving the soap, Smith has spoken about the impact of playing a character for so long.

    Once of the hardest things was being around adults, who often spoke over her.

    Talking about what she's faced, the actress said: "I have no idea how people see me because I just assume you just take one look at me and think, 'Oh cocky little Essex girl', which is true, but there's a lot more to me that people don't know.

    "I was on EastEnders for 13 years, which was all I can remember. I sometimes think I'm more comfortable being Tiffany than I am being Maisie.

    "I've struggled sort of speaking. And I've had, not a stutter, but I just could go blank and words wouldn't come out and I think the more that happened, the more people would just sort of talk over me."

    Faith, who is dealing with terminally ill cancer, has been at the centre of a storyline about assisted suicide.

    As her time comes to an end, Diane, played by Estensen, will return to the soap.

    Talking about her return, Estensen shared: "I was really pleased to be asked to come back to Emmerdale to celebrate its 50th. It's sort of the same but not the same.

    "There's a lot of people that I still know that I was really pleased to see again. I can't say I have enjoyed having to rush for a train again though!

    "Diane has a great time catching up with people in the village but she has come back especially to see Faith whom she was great friends with. Who knows, she may return again one day!"

    Speaking on his character’s disturbing development, he said on Lorraine: “God, I mean, Connor McIntyre, I’m just so in awe of him, who played Pat Phelan.

    “And then Brian Capron, you know, Richard Hillman, and I’m just so honoured that Iain MacLeod phoned me out of the blue and said, ‘hey, do you want to come in?’ And I thought, what an honour.

    “I’m 61 and it’s great that someone believes in me enough to say, ‘you can do that’.”
