Four tips to make a warming winter pudding without breaking the bank

IT’S parky out there, so why not top off dinner with your favourite warming winter pudding?

Using the oven for lengthy periods can get expensive, so stick your afters in the microwave — it costs less and cuts down time in the kitchen.

Here are some great ideas for delicious desserts that can be made in minutes.

SPONGE IT UP: Prepare a steaming sponge pudding in minutes, thanks to a touch of micro-power.

One of the best deals is a Mr Kipling pud — a pack of two in golden syrup, lemon or raspberry is only £1.50 at Morrisons.

And Mr Kipling Sticky Toffee pudding, which includes two 108g helpings, is £1.99 at the store.

RICE AND EASY: On the Tesco website at realfood.tesco.com you’ll find a recipe for cheats’ rice pudding.

Just put a 250g pack of plain microwave rice in a heatproof bowl with 250ml milk, two tablespoons of sugar, a teaspoon of vanilla extract and a beaten egg.

Stir well, then microwave for five to six minutes, stirring halfway through, until set.

Serve with a dollop of jam.

FANCY THAT: Microwave treats aren’t just for when you’re in a hurry.

They’re also perfect for heating posh dinner party desserts like Gu Salted Caramel Melt In The Middle Puddings, which come in a pack of two, down from £3.75 to £2.50 at Sainsbury’s.

For a perfect melting middle, heat them for 25 seconds.

MUG SHOT: Cake in a mug is a hit on TikTok and a simple way to get a sugar fix.

It’s easy to make your own, but if you want an instant fix, a Dr Oetker Pud In A Mug sachet is the way to go.

For 85p at Tesco and Asda, you can have a Dr Oetker Rich Chocolate Pud, made in less than a minute.

Just add milk along with the contents of the pack to a mug and microwave for around 50 seconds.
