A bloke has said he won’t be returning to Wetherspoons after allegedly being “abused” by staff.
Pensioner Owen McEverley, 82, had headed out for the afternoon with his wife Maureen, 84, in Gateshead, where they dropped into Wetherspoons at the town’s Metrocentre.
From High Spen they had been hoping for a peaceful visit at 3.30pm on Thursday, November 17, but things went pear-shaped when they allegedly “waved” for a member of staff to come and clean their table.

They say the table had plates on it left by its previous occupants.
But the server was frustrated with the move, and allegedly was reluctant to carry out the task on the basis of a lack of manners.
Owen told ChronicleLive: "I'm really upset. I've hardly slept, I've had a headache for a week, it's really, really upsetting and there's no way we're going back there anymore.
"It's somewhere we used to like to go because we go to different ones. How can you be abused? It's shocking."
He said he asked: "Can you clean the table?"
But the waitress wasn't impressed, replying: "Say please and thank you".
When he asked why she said that, the member of staff responded with: "Because you were abusive".
They refused to give Owen their name and then mimed the action they felt he had done to call them over.
Then, things heating up, they warned him they could ask him to leave the premises if they felt fit after Owen told them to “go away”.
Naturally, Owen had a chat with the manager where he was asked to consider, "Perhaps she's having trouble at home."
The grandfather said another customer had even spoken to the manager after witnessing the altercation.
When he came back the next day to find out how things had been handled he was told: "It's your word against hers."
Mr McEverley continued: "It's a shame because we've gone there ever since the kids were little. We used to take them in and we used to take the grandkids in as well.
"I'm only just starting to get over it. I've been going to bed with it and getting up with it in my head too, it's awful."
Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: "Unfortunately there was a disagreement between Mr McEverley and a member of the pub's team about the way his request was made to clean his and Mrs McEverley's table, which the manager on duty was unable to resolve to Mr McEverley's satisfaction.
"We have spoken both to the member of staff and the manager and there remains a lack of consensus as to what was said on the day. If Mr and Mrs McEverley wish to contact Wetherspoon then we would be happy to discuss the matter personally with them."
