A 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of raping a girl in a wooded area.
South Yorkshire Police said the suspect, who is still in custody, knew a 13-year-old girl.
The attack was reported to have occurred in Sheffield between 6:15 pm and 6:45 pm on Monday.
Police said the victim was walking through the city's woodlands when the attackers approached.
Police confirmed Tuesday that they had arrested a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of raping a woman under the age of 16.
A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: A one-year-old girl was walking through a wooded area off Lane End in the Chapeltown section of the city.
"A man then approached her and reportedly assaulted her. He walked off on foot.
"Known victim 16 from Sheffield. A year-old man has been arrested and is still in police custody on suspicion of raping a woman under the age of 16.

"Victims and their families continue to be supported by specially trained police officers."
