A hotel in Scotland has launched a time-limited festive treat for dogs this year, with owners allowed to treat their pets to a luxury break. Kimpton Blythswood Square hotel in Glasgow has devised The Ultimutt Treat to provide dogs with a five-star experience. The "pup-centred wellness experience" will see the pets treated as guests and showered with affection alongside their owners.

Kimpton Blythswood launched its scheme today, with bookings priced at £99 each and available between January 3 and 31 next year.

Both hotel residents and non-residents can take advantage of the treatment, which starts with owners.

Dogs rest while their human companions receive a 30-minute express facial or massage targeting stress and tension areas.

Once their treatment is over, the owners and hotel treatment experts focus on the dogs.

Spa therapists will teach people how to massage their pets using Edinburgh-based Bark and Hare’s doggy paw balm.

They will direct owners to rub the balm into their dog's paws and nose, two vital areas that require constant moisturising.

The hotel gifts owners a supply of their own Bark and Hare balm to continue the treatment back at home.

Kimpton Blythswood's staff hailed the event as they declared the hotel Glasgow's "most dog-friendly".

Mafalda Albuquerque, Kimpton Blythswood Square's general manager, has employed the hotel's resident dog, Bonnar, as the Director of Pet Relations.

She said the hotel already offers dog-centred treats and wants to go a "step further".

Ms Albuquerque said: "Beyond being a place for people to stay with their pets, we go that step further, as shown by our hugely popular PAWfect Stay package.

“As a dog owner, I know all too well pups can become as stressed as humans, and it’s important to take them on a relaxing holiday every now and then too."

"So, when we were thinking about the most paw-some Christmas gift for our furry friends this festive season, we knew we had to come up with something special.

“I’m very proud to launch The Ultimutt Treat - which I think makes us the number one luxury destination for both dogs and their owners to unwind this winter.”

Kimpton Blythswood's PAWfect package is another dog-centred scheme catered for pet owners.

The package provides owners with a bed for their pet, water bowls and treats during their stay.

The concierge will also provide people staying at the hotel with a list of pet-friendly places to visit nearby.

Guests who treat their pets to a spa day must keep their dogs close at hand, with them responsible for their dogs for the duration.

Dogs cannot wander around the premises without the owner present, and they will need to keep them on a lead in public areas.

The hotel may also cancel the treatment without a refund if the dog becomes visibly unhappy or unruly.
