Neither Palace officials nor members of the royal family were approached for comment over the content in the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s new Netflix docuseries, it is understood.

It has been suggested that representatives for Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace, as well as the royals themselves, were not offered the opportunity to reply to the raft of accusations lodged against them across the first three episodes of the hotly anticipated series.

Harry and Meghan’s tell-all documentary began streaming on Thursday, with Harry accusing the royals of having a “huge level of unconscious bias” and Meghan saying the media wanted to “destroy” her.

A senior source in the royal household countered the written statement of “Members of the royal family declined to comment on the content within this series” which appeared on a black screen at the start of episode one.

In the first instalment of the six-part show, Meghan claimed “salacious stories” were “planted” in the lead-up to their wedding, with the couple “playing whack-a-mole” as the articles appeared.

Harry says he was ‘terrified’ Meghan would be ‘driven away’ by press

The Duke of Sussex said he was “terrified” that Meghan would be “driven away by the media”.

Speaking in the first episode , he said: “The same media that had driven so many different people away from me.”

He added: “I knew that the only way that this could possibly work was by keeping it quiet for as long as possible.”

Meghan said: “At the beginning, our relationship was this guarded little... guarded treasure.”

This part of the episode shows an image of a phone screen showing a FaceTime call and the name “Haz” as well as what appears to be a screenshot taken during a video call of a smiling Harry.

Meghan tells the Netflix show: “It was long-distance from the beginning. Everything was just texts and Facetimes and we’d just talk for hours, and it just felt exciting, which is so weird because it wasn’t exciting in the way that I think people would assume that it would be.

“It was just relaxed and easy. We just got to know each other. Truly like any other couple where you’re figuring out like ‘What do you like to eat? What do you like to cook? What kind of movies do you like?”’
