Harry and Meghan 'want to bring down monarchy' with Netflix series, fear insiders

Harry and Meghan appear to “want to bring down the monarchy” with a “sly and insidious attack” on the Royal Family in their Netflix documentary, claims a Palace insider.

Harry and Meghan's tell-all documentary began streaming on Thursday, with Harry accusing the royals of having a "huge level of unconscious bias" and Meghan saying the media wanted to "destroy" her.

The Duke also said members of his family questioned why Meghan needed more protection from the media than their wives had been given, but that they failed to grasp the "race element".

The Sussexes signed lucrative deals, thought to be worth more than £100 million, with Netflix and Spotify after quitting as senior working royals, with the docuseries the first major output for them on the streaming giant.

Criticism of the late Queen and her Commonwealth legacy which was described as “Empire 2.0” also reportedly upset royal insiders.

“It looks as if they want to bring down the monarchy. What else could they hope to achieve by this? It was a sly and insidious attack from start to finish,” said a Daily Mail royal source.

Another commented on how the documentary with its attack on the royals was being made while the Queen and Prince Philip were suffering failing health and in the final months of their lives.

"They even came over to mark Her Majesty’s Jubilee while colluding with the filmmakers, without telling her what they were doing. That’s shameful and cowardly. There are a lot of people who are glad the late Queen is not here to see it,” they said.

There is a growing number of people who now feel that the Sussexes should be stripped of their royal titles and Conservative MP Bob Seely said he plans to bring forward proposed legislation that could see that happen.

The Isle of Wight MP suggested he could bring forward a short private members’ bill in the new year that, if passed, would see MPs vote on a resolution that could give the Privy Council the power to downgrade the couple’s royal status.

He said he had been thinking about the bill even before the Netflix documentary emerged, saying: “There is a political issue.”

Mr Seely added: “As well as trashing his family and monetising his misery for public consumption, he is also attacking some important institutions in this country.”
