Houseboat sinks while stuffed to the brim with Carling lager tins onboard

A riverboat has sunk in a UK canal filled to the brim with tinnies of lager.

Emergency services responding to the shipwreck in Salford, Greater Manchester, were shocked to discover that the vessel was full to the gills with alcoholic beverages, but that fortunately no one was on board when it sunk.

On Friday afternoon (January 27), firefighters entered the waterway and used underwater cameras to search the boat moored by the Dutton Arms pub on the Bridgewater Canal in Eccles.

Beer bottles were found strewn throughout the houseboat, with a crate of Carling and a pair of old trainers also recovered.

A window was smashed as part of the operation to ensure no one was inside.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Just before 12.30pm on Friday afternoon (27th January), two fire engines from Salford central fire station along with the Technical Rescue Unit from Ashton and the Water Incident Unit from Eccles were called to reports of a submerged boat in Bridgewater Canal, Eccles.

“The crews arrived quickly at the scene. Firefighters used an underwater camera, Tirfor and water rescue equipment to search the houseboat.”

In a very different boat story, news has emerged of a brand new 'flying' superyacht concept worth £70million with wings that allow it to glide over the water.

The Plectrum from Lazzarini Design Studio spans 74m and is powered by three hydrogen-powered motors.

A world away from Salford’s sunken booze boat, it is able to lift itself above the water using its astonishing 5,000 horsepower reaching eyewatering speeds of 75 knots.

Lazzarini explains: "The Plectrum is a concept that can be built on request with a €80million budget."

As if that wasn’t enough, it even comes complete with a helicopter hangar, a rear garage for storing both water toys and a supercar.
