I’m an MOT mechanic – FREE three-minute check at your local garage will save you £1,000s in the long run

CHARGED UP

The quick money-saving tip could stop your car from breaking down

AN MOT mechanic has revealed the free three-minute check at your local garage which will save you thousands in the long run.

The motoring expert took to TikTok to share the money-saving hack he says too many drivers are missing out on.

Craig, who works at Walsall Wood Tyre and Service in the West Midlands, advised people to get their vehicle's battery checked "sooner rather than later".

He used the 77-second clip to point out how garages offer simple checks for free, connecting a device to record how a battery is performing.

He printed a "health check" receipt recording how many amps are being released and whether the battery's in a "good" state or needs costly work ahead.

Craig told viewers: "It's that time of year when we've been babbling on about batteries, just to prevent you guys from not being able to make it to work.

"This is the battery testing we're proposing you get done sooner rather than later."

His previous videos have included advice on how to tell a good garage from a bad one, finding your tyres' age and saving thousands by checking a vehicle part.

Craig has also just explained a vehicle de-icing tip and a little-known detail to spot or else risk being fined.

Other recent advice to drivers from other experts includes warnings about a "resteal" scam as well as how to save hundreds on fuel.

Common reasons behind an irritating battery issue have also been outlined - as well as warning signs yours could be about to go flat.

A 75p hack has been suggested as a potential remedy, or else another DIY method to fix a battery yourself.

Car gurus have also outlined how to use jump leads safely as vehicle batteries drain in cold weather.
