'I want to divorce my husband - I can't handle his strange midlife crisis'

When making your wedding vows, you promise to stay with your partner through the good times and the bad, until death do you part. But nobody prepares you for just how bad things can get.

One woman has been left debating her marriage after her husband fell into a "cringey" midlife crisis - and now wants to pack her bags because it's become "too much to handle". Taking to Reddit, the American woman explained how her 44-year-old husband has started mimicking their 18-year-old son because he just realised "he's getting old". She said: "The last couple of months, he's gone off the rails. He started dyeing his hair black to cover the greys. His natural hair is blonde not black so it looks strange.

"We almost have our house paid off but he wants to take out equity to get a hair transplant in Turkey.

"Our son is 18 and enlisted in the armed forces. My husband only wears the clothes our son left here instead of his own. It doesn't matter that they don't fit or barely fit.

"Every night he asks me to go out to a nightclub with him for drinking and dancing."

The woman claims she "tried to roll with it" for a few weeks thinking he would soon revert back to his normal ways - but she started to snap after he announced his intention to quit his stable job to become a musician.

She added: "Between wanting to take out equity from the house and him telling me he wants to quit his stable employment to be a musician, I was concerned.

"Then he got Instagram and Snapchat and posts the same stuff people in their 20s post. He has TikTok as well.

"I got pushed over the edge when he bought a muscle car on financing without consulting me. I've gone to stay with my sister.

"We've been married for almost 20 years. I don't think he is cheating, he's an engineer and leans towards more awkward and introverted.

"But he is brushing me off if I bring it up and I'm so angry about the car."

While most users urged her to speak to her husband before rushing into a divorce, others shared how they've been through something similar.

One user said: "I'm curious of one thing. Was this guy super close to the son? Some dads are more like best friends than fatherly.

"But I'll say, if it's a midlife crises then it's most likely temporary. I don't think she should throw away their marriage for this.

"But definitely put her foot down about excessively large money moves."

Another user added: "He's experiencing regret. Things he didn't get to do in his 20s because he was married with kids.

"He wants to go clubbing, drive exotic cars, hang with young people. I see this from people who got married very young all the time."

A third user said: "I'm in my late 40s. My mid life crisis was buying an X-wing model kit like I used to build when I was a kid.

"I did the first few steps on it, lost interest in it and left it sitting on the kid's craft table for a couple of years - it's still there, mocking me. I feel like I'm missing out."
