Inside the abandoned ‘Ghost Palace of Bali’ which locals desperately avoid over spirits

A glimpse has been given behind an eerie abandoned jungle home dubbed the 'Ghost Palace of Bali'.

Once a hotel, it was built by playboy businessman Tommy Suharto, but now rots in the Indonesian jungle. It was first named the Bedugul Taman Rekreasi Hotel & Resort, and has been left for more than two decades. It's now completely blanketed by weeds and vines. It was expected to become a luxurious hotel, but is now described by locals as a "desolate wasteland". People on the Indonesian island stay clear of the eerie remnants of its shell and fear spirits may be trapped in what remains of its walls.

There are legends that the property is haunted by the ghosts of former workers who died trying to build it. Other rumours say the businessman behind the resort, Tommy Suharto, was cursed and faced a string of misfortunes.

Something otherworldly, it's claimed, could be affecting the structure's decay. The unfinished property looks like the kind of scary place where lost souls could wreak havoc. The main part of the hotel was completed before the creation of accommodation came to an abrupt halt.

A series of prominent structures and grand staircases are left, but no guest facilities. Vast stone serpents keep a watchful eye on the place. The building has now been taken over by vegetation, weeds, vines, and nests.

Urban explorers and tourists with an eye for adventure have been attracted to the property on the road from Kuta to Lake Beratan. An explorer who braved the expedition said there were no signs of people, and the building had been "swallowed" by nature.

Roman Robroek, 34, told The Sun: "The abandoned building used to be a beacon of elegance and luxury in the area. It was once a luxurious resort, but the hotel suddenly fell into decline. Today, the remnants of the hotel are largely swallowed by vegetation as nature continues to creep in. The hotel is rumoured to be haunted by the spirits of workers who tragically died during its construction."

He described the empty halls and deserted rooms giving a creepy aura that fitted the ghost stories and supernatural tales.

Roman, who visited earlier this year, said the rooms were littered with rubble, ancient furniture, and crumbling doors. And amazingly some of the bathroom suites still had guest robes and toiletries inside.

He found it interesting how large the hotel was, but rooms were often quite small with others - by contrast - being large and luxurious. He said some of the hotel's features aren't decayed as appears, but instead were never completed. This he felt added to the mystery behind its quick decay.
