A CARAVAN has been hailed as the world's "weirdest" as it's able to fold like a "Swiss army knife" at the push of a button.
Futuristic new motorhomes by a New Zealand firm have gone on sale promising 70 per cent extra space thanks to their eye-catching design.
The Romatow T8 and C8 campers not only offer a bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and living area but also an extra cabin which swings out and around when a button is pressed.
It swivels 90 degrees from its travelling shell, revealing an L-shaped, teak-floored outdoor patio with a fold-down cooking grille and space for four chairs.
Time magazine in the US has just included the Romotow T8 on its new list of this year's 200 best inventions.
It was described as combining "the luxury of a yacht with the technology of The Jetsons with the functionality of an RV".
The T8 mobile camper was also said to look "like it came from an Apple Store".
Romotow themselves insist their vans are "the next evolution in mobile living", offering "timeless styling, luxurious finishes, automated set-up and of course that deck".
Plans for the vans were first drawn up in 2012 but it has taken a decade to make them possible while fine-tuning the design.
The finished models don't come cheap, however.
The three T8 models are priced at £230,000, £180,000 and £140,000 while the lighter weight C8s cost £95,000, £130,000 and £180,000.
But Romotow Holdings co-founder Matt Wilkie insisted: “This is the sort of thing you pass down and it’s going to live 50-plus years."
The vans have plenty of admirers commenting on Romotow video guides giving tours inside while showing off the folding features.
One YouTube commenter wrote: "Frankly, caravans needed a big boost of youth and modernity and here it is really successful - really beautiful."
Other responses included "Stunning" and "This looks cool".
Another YouTube video showing the designs from 2020 describes them as "the Swiss army knife of camper trailers designed for the future".
A recent comment below that clip says: "Kind of cool but not sure what the point is?"
The Sun Online has approached Romotow for comment.
