Peugeot has released details of its third generation medium-sized 3008 SUV - and for the first time it will be available as a fully electric model.

The E-3008 will spearhead the launch of the new car next year and it will also be available with hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

It is the first model to use parent group Stellantis’ new STLA Medium electric powertrain which is said to give the E-3008 a range of up to 435 miles and a rapid recharging time of 30 minutes to 80 per cent capacity.

The new model measures 4.54m long, which is similar to the current model, and boot space of 520 litres is identical to the existing 3008.

With a completely new look at the front of the car the E-3008 has a body-coloured grille that gives it a smart, sporty appearance.

At the rear, Peugeot has modernised the traditional slope of the fastback with a "floating" spoiler, inspired by its Quartz Concept model which enhances the curve of the new E-3008's bodywork while optimising aerodynamics and complementing its three-claw rear light signature.

The interior of the new Peugeot 3008 model

The E-3008 will feature a V2L system enabling users to power an electrical device via the car’s battery while inside the Peugeot i-Cockpit has been updated and now features a curved 21-inch panoramic screen that combines a head-up display with the central touchscreen.

The model’s characteristic toggle keys below the central screen have been retained but are now operated by touch and can be programmed to give access to features such as contacts, navigation destinations and pre-set interior temperatures.

There is also a new compact and ergonomic steering wheel with touch-sensitive controls while behind the wheel are two paddle controls which operate three levels of regenerative braking.

The E-3008 will be available in Allure and GT trim levels and a choice of three powertrains - 210bhp standard range, 230bhp long range and a 320bhp dual motor set up offering all-wheel-drive.

Safety features include adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, automatic emergency braking and an advanced traction control system.

Peugeot says the E-3008 will be manufactured exclusively at the Sochaux plant in France and will be on sale from February 2024.

Prices and performance data for all three versions are still to be announced but the E-3008 is expected to start from around £40,000.

The latter powertrain is exclusive to the Golf Black Edition.
