Kilmarnock bus station security worker left with broken nose after assault

A Kilmarnock bus station security worker has been left with a broken nose after being assaulted.

The 57-year-old man was attacked on Wednesday night at around 8.15pm and was taken to hospital following the incident.

Police have since confirmed that two teenagers, an 18-year-old girl and 17-year-old boy, have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident and will appear at court at a later date.

Locality inspector Iain Farmer has said that patrols have been stepped up in a bid to tackle anti-social behaviour in the town centre.

Insp Farmer added: “All anti-social behaviour is not acceptable and we continue to work with partners to deal with these issues. However, the level at the bus station in particular is not just disgusting but totally unnecessary.

“Attacks on people who are just doing their job will not be tolerated and our patrols in the area are being increased.

“We see groups of youths gathering and in terms of the younger people involved, I would urge parents and carers to ensure they know where they are and what they are doing.

“Part of growing up to be an adult is learning about responsible behaviour. In Kilmarnock there are activities for youths, including those provided by Vibrant Communities, and I would urge people to find out more about what is available.

“The local community has an important role to play in helping us tackle anti-social behaviour and anyone with information on those responsible or concerns should call us on 101.”

Police Said that they are working with partners, including British Transport Police, East Ayrshire Council, Vibrant Communities, Stagecoach, Ayrshire Roads Alliance and Confida Security to tackle anti-social behaviour in Kilmarnock.
