Man accused of killing woman and three children goes on trial

A man accused of murdering a mother and three children near Sheffield is due to stand trial today.

Damien Bendall, 32, is alleged to have raped and murdered 11-year-old Lacey Bennett last year.

He is also said to have killed her brother John Paul Bennett, 13, their mother Terri Harris, 35, and Lacey’s friend Connie Gent, 11.

The four victims were discovered dead at a house in Chandos Crescent, Killamarsh, on September 19 last year.

But it is unclear exactly when they died.

It is claimed that Bendall, of Chandos Crescent, killed them one day after Friday, September 17.

He is due be tried at Derby Crown Court before Mr Justice Sweeney.

The father of the siblings, Jason Bennett, posted a tribute to his son and daughter after leaving flowers at the scene.

A fundraising page has seen around £31,000 donated to the quartet’s memories.
