Man Utd transfer round-up: Red Devils plot Sommer swoop as Dalot swap deal emerges

Manchester United’s preparations for the resumption of the Premier League later this month hit a bump in the road as they lost 4-2 to La Liga outfit Cadiz on Wednesday.

The squad may have been depleted due to the absences of a number of World Cup stars but Erik ten Hag will have seen enough of what was left to know that major reinforcements are still required. As a result, a shock swap deal could be submitted to secure a primary target next year, while one star will not extend his stay beyond the current campaign.

Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest transfer stories coming out of Old Trafford…

United plan shock swap-deal

It is no secret that Man United are on the hunt for another right back to compete with and provide competition for Diogo Dalot, with Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries still near to the top of the shopping list for Ten Hag.

The Netherlands international has impressed at the World Cup so far and the Red Devils will be keen to sort a deal sooner rather than later. And the latest news coming from Pianet Azurro is that United are prepared to submit a €30million bid to Inter for Dumfries.

However, that’s not all, with the report also stating that the Red Devils will offer current first choice right back Dalot as part of the deal, in what comes as a huge shock given his role under Ten Hag so far this season and his importance to the Man United side.

Red Devils plot Sommer swoop

Another failed summer transfer that Man United are looking to revisit is that of Switzerland and Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

The Red Devils were strongly linked with the veteran shot-stopper over the summer but Sommer was keen to see out his contract with the Bundesliga outfit. However, United have not given up and will try once more to secure his services.

That’s according to ESPN, who report that United are ‘working on’ a deal to sign the free agent next summer and will be able to make contact with his agent as of January 1st.

Dubravka to leave at end of season

On the back of the news that United are trying to secure a deal for Sommer to bolster their goalkeeping ranks next season, current Newcastle loanee Martin Dubravka is not expected to extend his stay at Old Trafford beyond this season.

The Slovakian international joined the Red Devils over the summer as back-up to David De Gea, following Dean Henderson’s loan switch to Nottingham Forest, although he has featured just once for Ten Hag’s side since - the 4-2 victory over Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup.

ESPN have also reported that United won’t be looking to extend Dubravka’s loan or sign him on a permanent deal come the end of the season. Coupled with the fact that Nick Pope is now Newcastle’s no.1, Dubravka will be expected to complete a permanent switch away from the Magpies once his loan spell at Old Trafford ends.
