Matt Lucas and David Walliams tease new project after Bake Off exit and 'quitting' BGT

Matt Lucas and David Walliams are working together on a new project.

The comedic duo have confirmed they are working on a brand new project together, just two days after Matt announced he was standing down from his presenting role on The Great British Bake Off.

David is also rumoured to have quit his role as a judge on Britain's Got Talent ahead of the new series, a decision he is said to have "not taken lightly".

However, the pair both seem to be lining up some new work with each other and Matt took to Instagram to share a picture of him and David together as he appeared to confirm they were busy working on a new project.

Alongside the new snap, Matt commented: "Writing," as excited fans and friends rushed to the comment section to share their excitement. Matt's former Bake Off co-host Noel Fielding even gave his approval, adding: "Yay."

It comes after Matt announced he would be stepping down from The Great British Bake Off as it was clear he could "no longer continue" in his role due to other commitments including Football Fantasy League.

"Farewell Bake Off! It's been a delicious experience and I can't imagine a more fun way of spending my summers. But it's become clear to me that I can't present both Fantasy Football League and Bake Off alongside all my other projects," he wrote onTwitter.

"So, after three series and 51 episodes, I am cheerfully passing the baguette on to someone else."

He added: "I would like to give my warmest thanks and gratitude to everyone at Love Productions and Channel 4 and to Noelipops, Paul, Dame Prue, the crew and, of course, the wonderful bakers for welcoming me into the tent.

"I wish whoever takes over the very best and I can't wait to tune into the next series without already knowing who won!"

David, meanwhile, is also said to have quit his role on Britain's Got Talent after 10 years.

"These were private conversations and – like most conversations with friends – were never intended to be shared. Nevertheless, I am sorry."

"David has decided to bow out after a ten-year run. He wants to leave on a high after a wonderful time," an insider said, "Being on the show has been a huge source of entertainment and joy for him and he is arguably the most popular member of the panel."

A BGT spokesperson told The Mirror: "The judging panel for 2023 will be announced in due course."

His co-stars Amanda Holden, 51, Alesha Dixon, 44, and Simon Cowell, 63, are all expected to return to the show.
