Moises Caicedo has one major fear over Arsenal move after Brighton transfer request

Moises Caicedo is reportedly worried that he could miss out on a move to Arsenal or Chelsea should Brighton not accept a bid for his services this month.

The Ecuadorian midfielder is leading the headlines heading into the final days of the January transfer window having found himself at the heart of a battle between the two Premier League giants. The Gunners have reportedly lodged two bids for his services, whilst Chelsea are keen to make him the latest addition to their record-breaking influx of January signings.

It remains to be seen whether his current employers Brighton relent before the deadline and agree to sell their star midfielder. According to the Daily Mail, Caicedo is concerned that he could lose out on a move should a deal not be agreed next month.

Both Arsenal and Chelsea are anticipated to pursue West Ham star Declan Rice in the summer by which time a switch for Caicedo may not be among their priorities any longer. The 21-year-old actually attempted to take matters into his own hands earlier this week.

In a social media post, he appealed for the Seagulls to let him leave in the current window. He said: "I am grateful to Mr. Bloom and Brighton for giving me the chance to come to the Premier League and I feel I have always done my best for them. I always play football with a smile and with heart.”

"I am the youngest of 10 siblings from a poor upbringing in Santa Domingo in Ecuador. My dream always to be the most decorated player in the history of Ecuador.

"I am proud to be able to bring in a record transfer fee for Brighton which would allow them to reinvest it and help the club continue to be successful. The fans have taken me into their hearts and they will always be in my heart so I hope they can understand why I want to take up this magnificent opportunity.”

That decision appears to have left the Brighton hierarchy hugely disgruntled. Caicedo has been told to stay away from the club’s training ground until after the window is closed.

He still has two-and-a-half months remaining on his contract at the AMEX Stadium with Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi remaining tight-lipped on any potential move.

Speaking ahead of his side’s FA Cup showdown with Premier League rivals Liverpool, he said: “Moises is a good guy. We will see what happens tomorrow and the next day. We hope he stays with us until the end of the season, but this is a question of the club and Moises.

“In life you can make mistakes. There are many solutions for everyone and we will see the best solution for the club, for him and for us."
