Moors murders bombshell as author hunting missing Keith Bennett finds 'skull of boy'

Suspected human remains found on the Moors around Manchester have prompted a police investigation.

The possible remains were discovered by Russell Edwards, an author looking into the infamous Moors Murderers, Ian Brady and Myra Hindley, who are known to have killed five people in what is now Greater Manchester between July 1963 and October 1965.

The author is understood to have been specifically looking into the killing of Keith Bennett, one of the evil pair’s victims.

Bennett is the only one of their victims who was never found but is understood to have been lured into their van by the wicked pair in 1964.

The DailyMail has reported that the suspected find could be the skull of a 12-year-old boy, with amateur sleuth Edwards reportedly believing he has found Keith's grave.

The discovery has been made close to where one of the Moors Murders buried one of their victims.

Edwards has since hypothesised that the Nazi-obsessed killer could have been trying to create a Swastika with the burial sites.

Discussing the possible find, Greater Manchester Police have released an official statement detailing the situation but were quick to stress that nothing has been confirmed.

As it stands, there is no confirmed connection between the find and the Moors Murderers and it was “ far too early to be certain whether human remains have been discovered”.

Force Review Officer Martin Bottomley said: “At around 11.25am on Thursday 29 September 2022, Greater Manchester Police was contacted by the representative of an author who has been researching the murder of Keith Bennett, a victim of Ian Brady and Myra Hindley.

"Following direct contact with the author, we were informed that he had discovered what he believes are potential human remains in a remote location on the Moors and he agreed to meet with officers yesterday afternoon to elaborate on his find and direct us to a site of interest.

“The site was assessed late last night and, this morning, specialist officers have begun initial exploration activity.

"We are in the very early stages of assessing the information which has been brought to our attention but have made the decision to act on it in line with a normal response to a report of this kind.

“It is far too early to be certain whether human remains have been discovered and this is expected to take some time.

“We have always said that GMP would act on any significant information which may lead to the recovery of Keith and reunite him with his family. As such, we have informed his brother of the potential development - he does not wish to be contacted at this time and asks that his privacy is respected.”
