NFL star Kyler Murray hits out at former team-mate with "weird s***" response to criticism

NFL star Kyler Murray has hit out at former teammate Patrick Peterson after the Minnesota Vikings star suggested the quarterback is selfish.

The 25-year-old, who won Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2019 after he was selected first overall by the Arizona Cardinals, showcased enough ability and production to earn a monster new contract after establishing himself as the franchise quarterback for the foreseeable future. Earlier this offseason, Murray inked a $230.5million (£188m) extension - with $160m (£130m) guaranteed - to commit to the franchise for the long-term.

Murray has impressed in 2022 despite playing just 10 times due to injury, throwing for 2,359 yards and 14 touchdowns to seven interceptions while he has rushed for 415 yards and three touchdowns. However, his Cardinals sit at 4-8 amid a difficult season.

Peterson is a veteran cornerback who starred with the Cardinals after he was drafted fifth overall in the 2011 NFL Draft. He spent a decade in Arizona before signing with the Vikings as a free agent, playing alongside Murray for his final two seasons with the franchise.

Peterson - who has three picks in 2022 - and his co-host, former NFL cornerback Bryant McFadden, were discussing whether Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury deserves to be a ‘scapegoat’ for the team’s failures this season. McFadden suggested Murray should keep his thoughts private, saying: “It tells me he doesn't care about his head coach and he's putting everything on the head coach.”

Peterson retorted by adding: “Kyler Murray don't care about nobody but Kyler Murray. That's just a matter of the fact.”`

“You got my number, if you really felt like this as a 'big bro' or 'mentor' you supposed to call me and tell me, not drag me so your podcast can grow….”

Murray’s Cardinals are currently on a bye week after their 25-24 defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers last Sunday, and they will return to action against the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football on December 12. Peterson’s 9-2 Vikings host the New York Jets on Sunday.
