Outlander star Sam Heughan heading to Glasgow for book signing

Outlander star Sam Heughan will be setting his sights on Glasgow for his sold out book signing next weekend.

The Scots actor, who is best known for his role as Jamie Fraser in the historical fantasy series, will be meeting fans at Waterstones, Sauchiehall Street, for the signing. Sam, 42, released his highly anticipated memoir Waypoints: My Scottish Journey in October.

The book signing will be taking place between Sunday, December 18 from 10am - 12pm and is priced at £25 including a copy of the book. Tickets went on sale at 11am, and the event was completely sold out within the hour.

The Scots star's memoir details his life growing up as a young boy in Scotland, his journey into the acting industry and other events that shaped who he is today. In the book, Sam detailed the time Richard Madden, 36, 'snubbed' him while he was working as a bartender at an industry event in London.

He discussed serious and personal matters in the book, detailing his trouble with a 'low level eating disorder' as he recalled calorie counting and abiding by a strict diet. He said: “In hindsight, when I consider that time in my life, I recognise that I was living for a while with a low-level eating disorder.

"The requirement for an actor to look a certain way has driven me too far at times. I rationed what I ate, often consuming just salad and pickles, knowing they were low in calories. I certainly wasn’t taking on enough fuel for all the running I was doing, let alone for a long day on set.

“We often talk about pressure on women to conform. I certainly felt that expectation upon me, which is why I responded by maintaining a disciplined eating and exercise regime. It was a form of control as I tried to make my way in an industry in which actors are pretty much powerless.”

He was inspired to write Waypoints while taking part in the West Highland Way, a 96-mile hike from Milngavie to Fort William.

Outlander seasons 1-6 are available on Starz in the USA and Lionsgate+ via Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
