Primary school MUGA reopens after CCTV installed amidst vandalism

A Lanarkshire primary school has reopened their MUGA sports pitch to the public after installing CCTV following a spate of vandalism on the premises.

High Blantyre Primary School was the target for repeated anti-social behaviour and destruction over the last few months, leading to school staff taking the decision to close down the multi-use, all-weather pitch out of school hours.

However, after working with South Lanarkshire Council (SLC), who have installed a brand new top quality security system the school have announced that the pitch will once again be opened for public use outwith of school hours.

High Blantyre Primary School head teacher Kirsteen Helsby told Lanarkshire Live : "I am delighted to inform you that our MUGA is now open once again for local community use.

"The pedestrian gate to the left of the school and the entrance to the MUGA will now remain open after school hours.

"Following repeated anti-social behaviour and vandalism in our MUGA and school grounds, SLC has installed a high level of security cameras around the school grounds, to enable any further incidents to be recorded and available to the police.

"We will continue to work with SLC and Police Scotland to prevent our school building and grounds being targeted by anti-social behaviour and vandalism."
