Prince Harry tripped alarm at St James's Palace after falling down drunk, soldier claims

Prince Harry fell over in a sentry box while drunk, triggering a panic alarm, a former fellow soldier said.

The Duke of Sussex is said to have, while on a night out, tripped and fallen into the alarm button after he found himself in a sentry booth at St James's Palace, London.

He is said to have been a “mess”, his actions causing three members of the Guards to rush over.

Aged 27 at the time, Harry was eventually carried back to his apartment by two nearby coppers and his behaviour was later discussed at Wellington barracks, close to St James's.

The soldier, spilling the beans about the alleged January 2012 incident, is reported by the Sun to have been a member of the Guards Division and claimed the young Prince was “blind drunk”.

The soldier, with more than a decade of service in the armed forces and who had sustained an injury, said: “He was a mess, he was on the floor drooling on himself.”

In a less-than-positive claim, he added: “When we tried to get him up he was uncooperative and abusive.”

The outlet reports that the soldier, who suffered injuries from an IED on his second tour of Afghanistan, was angered by claims made by Harry in his memoir Spare and said he had a reputation for being a “social hand grenade” in officer circles.

He discussed alleged shenanigans carried out at Wellington Barracks, the home of the Guards Division.

Choosing to remain anonymous, he said: “It was around midnight. An alarm went off in the guard room, but we’d never heard it before.

“One of the senior lads said it was one of the sentry boxes. Within a couple of minutes, three of us who were in the QRF were out the door.

“There were two Met Police guys there as well. “But instead of an intruder or terrorist, we found Prince Harry.

“He was wearing tight blue chinos and a white shirt, with a dark jumper over it. He was slurring his words, not making any sense.

“When we tried to pick him up he started yelling, ‘get off me, I don’t need any help’. He was pushing us off and being very abusive.”

No notes were put down in the handover guard report that evening.

“We all had a good laugh and a joke about it,” he added.

The Daily Star has contacted representatives of Prince Harry regarding the solider's claims.
