Ranvir Singh left in floods of tears in a park after being axed from job at ITV

LIFE LESSON

RANVIR Singh has recalled a low point in her career when she broke down in tears on a park bench after being let go from a job at ITV.

The Good Morning Britain presenter opened up about being axed from a previous role just months after relocating her family to London.

The 45-year-old star said she had a safe job at the BBC in Manchester but she packed it all in for an exciting opportunity at rival ITV.

However, when Ranvir expressed an interest to move up in her role she was told she was not part of their future plan.

Speaking on the Sliding Doors podcast, she told host Jennie Becker: "I had a very secure job with BBC job with a pension and everything.

"I got headhunted to go to ITV. So I give up this whole secure life at the BBC and my friends and my life in Manchester to move to London, essentially, for a contract.

"It was a two-year contract. But I always remember being in the newsroom at the BBC and looking up at the little television and thinking, 'I want to know what it's like to be there (on a national)."

"I'm there, 15 months into the job. The programme gets a whole rebrand and I'm not a part of their plans.

"I found out at 10 o'clock in the morning and by 10.30 am and email had gone out."

The TV favourite said a phone call from a respected newsreader gave her boost she needed to shake off her tears.

"There's me crying in a park with my little son and My phone rings and it's John Stapleton - a long-term GMTV presenter," Ranvir added.

"He told me not to complain, carry on turning up and to do my job."

In 2005, Ranvir joined the BBC's North West Tonight show as a journalist and bulletin presenter, but by 2011 was the co-host.

She is now best known for being a presenter on Daybreak (2012–2014) and a features correspondent and news presenter on Good Morning Britain.

In 2016 and 2017, the journalist co-presented The Martin Lewis Money Show alongside the money man himself, Martin Lewis.

She took part on Strictly Come Dancing two years ago and has presented Real Stories with Ranvir Singh.

In 2020, the star became a regular guest presenter on Loose Women and she now fills in for Lorraine Kelly on her ITV show Lorraine.
