Ruud van Nistelrooy revisits Rangers defeat pain as PSV boss admits unshakeable Champions League feeling left a scar

Ruud van Nistelrooy admits defeats as PSV boss leave him feeling like the earth is collapsing around him - citing a painful Rangers experience as a perfect example.

Dutch counterpart Giovanni van Bronckhorst got the better of him last August as the Light Blues beat the Eredivisie side over two play-off legs, progressing to the lucrative Champions League group stages. PSV have since gone on run to the Europa League knockout stages- eliminated by Sevilla last month - but a loss to Rangers still stings the Manchester United legend.

It is his first job as a senior manager and admits the process of handling defeats has been a major learning curve, with the exit from Europe's grand arena showing it up in full. He told The Overlap: "The most difficult thing is dealing with results. As a manager and coach you feel responsible for the result, when you lose it's like .bloody hell.'

"Beginning of the season we got knocked out of the play-offs for the Champions League against Rangers. What you feel then, it's tough, it's a lot and I couldn't explain it.

"As a player I didn't feel that volume. You feel collective responsibility for the club, fans, players, everything, you need to explain it in the media and you think 'it's a lot', you do learn quickly."
