Seething Celtic punter claims proof over Rangers ref conspiracy triggered by Parkhead penalty – Hotline

Aberdeen pulled the trigger on Jim Goodwin after another humiliating 90 minutes against Hibs.

And Willie Collum was in the firing line with Hotline callers for what they reckon was an embarrassing performance as Nicky Clark was sent off and Ryan Jack escaped a red in Rangers’ win over St Johnstone. Yes, shots were being fired all over the place after another fast and furious weekend of Premiership action.

Bu let’s start with Aberdeen’s hunt for a new boss. Frank McFerran, Carrickfergus, said: “New Aberdeen manager .. Neil Lennon? He would lift that team. I know he’s a bad tempered guy but he is a good coach.” Davy Wilson, Aberdeen, said: “The players have absolutely chucked it in the last fortnight and some of them deserve the sack. A strong character is a must at Pittodrie now. They need to rip it up and start again. Chris Wilder isn’t a bad shout.”

Meanwhile John Scott, Grassmoor, said: “Some pundits tell Hibs they can't keep changing managers then in the same week criticise Aberdeen’s chairman for giving Jim Goodwin one last chance at struggling Hibees. Crazy isn't it? However pundits could yet be proved correct. Lee Johnson has guided Hibs to their biggest home victory over Aberdeen since 1930s. Jim has at least been put out of his misery and no doubt Aberdeen’s malingering players will be back to their best under a new manager.”

If Collum thought Goodwin’s dramatic departure at Easter Road would take the spotlight off his performance at Ibrox - in which he flashed red at Clark and awarded Rangers a handball penalty - then the referee was whistling in the wind.

Dr Robert Pender emailed: “What a below standard performance from Willie Collum and not for first time. Surely it is time to demote him to non league or remove his licence.”

Andrew Adams, Kirkcaldy, said: “Willie Collum has got to go, for his own good. Every controversial VAR decision, he's involved, whether it's on the pitch or in the VAR studio. The guy’s just incompetent. He’s not biased, just incompetent.”

Jim McClean, Rothesay, added: “I can’t believe Collum’s mistakes over the last month and nothing is done about him by his bosses. He is controversial every game he referees, even when he is on VAR duty. It’s time he was demoted or not given Rangers games, he is clueless.” Of course, there then follows the calls of conspiracy.

Gerard Kelly emailed: “All Rangers fans are good at coming here moaning about how Celtic get VAR decisions well what about the call against St Johnstone? Honestly if wasn't for var Rangers would be nowhere near second in the league. The SFA needs to step in and sort this out, that was a blatant red for Ryan Jack all day long. St Johnstone got a red card for practically nothing. And it was never a hand ball for the penalty.”

John Melrose, Edinburgh, said: “This has gone way past the debating stage now, there is a clear and obvious attempt by referees and var officials to assist Rangers in league games. The two cup smokescreen decisions predicted by Celtic fans before they even happened and Saturday’s laughable farce are the final straw and fans of all clubs must speak out about this utter farce.”

Helen McLean, Inverness, added: “I would back up what fans of other clubs have been saying about bias in Rangers favour from referees. My club was the victim of the worst decision I have ever seen with the James Sands last man rugby tackle against Ross county and the decisions in Rangers’ favour have continued weekly ever since. I honestly think this needs looked into at a higher level.”

And John Caw emailed: “Only one club has escaped a penalty being awarded against them for dubious handball and no prizes for guessing who. Mr Walsh gives absolutely nothing against the same nameless club who hold world record for receiving them.”
