The community grants scheme is in place to fund activities and projects which offer community benefit and bring communities together to enjoy educational, recreational, leisure and other activities or to improve the local environment.

Support can be provided for a range of things including outings and entrance fees, administration and start up costs and special events.

Applications are invited throughout the year and awards are presented to each area committee.

The total of funding allocated to the Clydesdale area for the financial year was £25,750. There is £10,053 remaining.

With a good amount of funding still available, councillor Richard Lockhart (Clydesdale North) asked what the plans were with the excess money.

He said: “We are heading again towards the last quarter, and I think we’ve only given out around £14,000 in community grants and have £10,000 in the pot, we’re heading towards a surplus. Are there any plans to get the word out a bit more in order to reduce the amount that’s left over at these grants?”

It was confirmed that there is publicity around grants and groups are welcome to apply throughout the year.
