Six men and boy arrested over ‘serious violence’ after Airdrie family motorhome 'rammed'

Police have arrested six men and a boy over ‘serious violence’ which saw a family motorhome ‘rammed’ moments after a ‘machete fight’.

Officers were called to reports of a disturbance on Caldercruix Road in Airdrie at around 3.30pm on November 4.

A second incident, which is believed to be linked, took place in a field just off the A76 at Bowhouse roundabout in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, two days later.

A 23-year-old man was charged in connection to the Airdrie incident and appeared in court facing four attempted murder allegations.

A second suspect has since been arrested and charged in connection with both incidents. The man, also 23, was due to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court on November 22 and again in Kilmarnock the following day.

Following a major investigation by police, a 22-year-old has now also been charged in connection with both incidents. He appeared in court on Monday and will be in the dock again this afternoon.

Two further men, aged 23 and 21, have now been charged in connection with the incident off the A76. They appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday.

Following further enquiries, officers attended at a number of addresses in Wishaw, Shotts, Larkhall and Strathaven on Tuesday, November 29, when two men aged 28 and a male youth aged 15 were arrested in connection with the Ayrshire incident.

The police investigation to trace all those responsible continues.

Chief Inspector Graeme McLaughlin said: “A number of arrests have been made in connection with these serious incidents in Lanarkshire and Ayrshire following a robust police investigation into violence.

“I would like to reassure the public that incidents of violence are taken extremely seriously and detailed investigations will always be carried out to trace those responsible. This kind of behaviour is not acceptable in our communities.”
