St Mirren director Gordon Scott steps down from board role at Paisley club

St Mirren director Gordon Scott is stepping down from his role as bosses hail his “massive contribution” to the Paisley club.

Scott – who has served twice on the club’s board – leaves his current position after almost seven years, with current chairman John Needham confirming the news in a statement.

A former chairman at SMiSA Stadium, Scott paid around £700,000 for a controlling 51 per cent share of the club in 2016.

However, he is now calling it a day having “achieved his personal objectives” at the Greenhill Road club.

These include securing fan ownership status at Saints and the Ralston training centre as well as watching the club win the League Cup in 2013 and clinch a top-six Premiership finish this season.

Chairman Needham hailed the long-standing board member for his achievements at St Mirren across his spells with the club.

In a statement on the club website, Needham said: “Having achieved his personal objectives of a successful transition to fan ownership, and a return to the top six, director and former chairman Gordon Scott has decided to step down from the club board.

“Gordon has made a massive contribution to the recent progress of the club and served for 14 of the past 20 years on the board.

“He personally oversaw the building of the stadium at Greenhill Road, had a key role in the creation of the training centre at Ralston, and as chairman, negotiated and facilitated the successful transition to fan ownership.

“Gordon leaves a lasting legacy of progress having dedicated countless hours in leading and managing the club through the various challenges we’ve faced during his time on the board.”

He added: “I am deeply indebted to Gordon for his support and advice over the past couple of years and he leaves with our grateful thanks.

“His experience and knowledge has been invaluable and he will always be welcome at the stadium on match days.”

The SMiSA board will now work with the remaining SMiSA-nominated directors to appoint a replacement.
