Starmer is in danger of turning his party into the political wing of the Just Stop Oil lunatics

Keir talks hot air

IT is a total fantasy that our economy can get to Net Zero by 2050 without any reliance on oil and gas in-between.

Yet that is the lie being peddled by Sir Keir Starmer.

And in this grand deception he is being assisted by his bacon-munching failed predecessor turned eco-warrior Ed Miliband.

Together the pair blithely announced yesterday that if they come to power they would ban all future oil and gas drilling in the North Sea.

Miliband boasts meaninglessly of turning the UK into a global energy superpower.

While Starmer accepts a £1.5million donation from an eco-tech boss who publicly backs Just Stop Oil.

What dangerous, delusional nonsense.

The Sun is firmly in favour of new technologies as the answer to our climate questions.

But the simple truth is that solar and wind alone won’t get us to the promised green land.

It currently only reliably produces about four per cent of our energy needs.

It’s not just about replacing gas — we need oil for other products like plastics.

Starmer and Miliband’s reckless pledge would leave us at the whims of foreign powers.

Has the war in Ukraine taught Labour nothing about the folly of such an approach?

Astonishingly, they admit we would still need these fuels and plan to spend billions shipping them from abroad instead.

What’s green about that?

Starmer is in danger of turning his party into the political wing of the Just Stop Oil lunatics.

We need a hard-headed, grown-up energy strategy.

Not cheap, empty promises aimed at appeasing fashionable eco-dreamers.

Police shame

OUR police officers now appear to be so divorced from reality and humanity that their first response to dealing with a frail dementia patient is to reach for a taser.

What six heavily-equipped and armed Met cops did to a helpless and confused old woman in South London is beyond all comprehension.

Are coppers being numbed by their daily experiences of tackling gang thugs on the streets?

Are they so confused by woke edicts from top brass that they literally don’t know what to do?

And what on earth has happened to straightforward common sense?

Met chief Mark Rowley says his stretched force won’t respond to mental health call-outs after September.

Perhaps that’s just as well.

Glad Hatters

THINGS haven’t always been easy for multicultural Luton over recent times.

Its people have struggled for years from economic hardship and the effects of Islamic and right-wing extremism.

So to see the whole town unite as one to hail their new Premier League heroes yesterday really lifted the spirits.

Hatters off all round!
