Strictly’s Fleur East reveals real reason behind her tears on Saturday’s show that fans didn’t see on TV

STRICTLY Come Dancing star Fleur East has revealed the real reason why she broke down in tears on Saturday night's show.

The singer-songwriter got emotional after performing the Viennese Waltz with her professional dance partner Vito Coppola.

Fleur, 34, performed the emotional danced to Glimpse Of Us by Joji on Strictly over the weekend - before she was seen wiping away tears.

Now, the radio star has revealed the real reason she broke down, after a difficult start on the show with lots of negative feedback.

Speaking on her Hits Radio show, Fleur told her co-hosts that she cried after a family member made a sweet gesture in the audience.

She said: "I really wanted to commit to it. All day I was trying to make sure I found the right emotion for this dance as I was really worried about going on there, being quite blank and just doing the steps.

"But just before we danced, I went to see my family who were sitting in the audience and my Uncle Sean lifted his arm to show me his wrist - and he was wearing my Dad’s bracelet.

"He didn’t say anything to me, just showed it to me and that set me off. It was seconds before I performed, I started crying, blubbering."

Fleur tragically lost her father Malcolm during the pandemic - and decided to take part in the competition in his honour.

Fleur went on to perform the dance before she was seen crying again, as Tess Daly paused the show to check she was OK.

"You alright, Fleur?" she could be heard asking before walking her to the judging panel, gushing over the dance as "dreamy".

Spotting Fleur was crying, she said: "You were feeling all the emotions weren't you my darling? You shed a little tear. It got to you."

Explaining what happened, Fleur replied: "Vito said to me 'make sure you bring the feeling.' I've been building it up."

She followed up in an Instagram post on Monday: "I was surprised at how emotional I got, but I just really wanted to do well and get into the right emotion for the dance."

It's been an emotional time for Fleur on the show, after viewers watched her being dished out "negative" feedback from the judges.

Judge Craig Revel Horwood said of her first dance: "It was very wild. A little too wild for me. It needs a little more technique."

Fleur's face dropped and she pursed her lips together as she did her best to hide her fury and disappointment.
