The staggering number of people waiting over 12 hours at your local A&E revealed

Staggering figures show nearly 38,000 people had to wait more than 12 hours in A&E last month.

Out of a total of 2,166,710 people who are forced to go to emergency departments across the nation in November, about two per cent were left waiting half a day to be treated.

Recent NHS figures showed 37,837 of those heading to A&E had a mammoth wait before being seen - but the situation is improving.

In October, 43,792 people had to wait for more than 12 hours at their A&E. Meaning there were just under 6,000 fewer people with the lengthy wait.

In September, it was just 32,776 people who faced the long wait, while in August it was 28,756.

Figures revealed out of more than two million visitors to Accident & Emergency departments across the country in November, only 68.9 per cent were admitted within four hours.

It's a slight decrease from October's rate of 69.3 per cent and September's rate of 71 per cent.

However, statistics show the percentage being seen quicker is dropping year on year.

Last year, during the same month, 74.1 per cent of patients were admitted within four hours, while in November 2020 it was 83.8 per cent - just under a five per cent drop.

November 2019 figures showed the rate for a four-hour or under wait to be admitted was 81.4 per cent.

The figures come a week before nurses are set to strike after a decade of under-inflation pay.

Earlier this week, South East England nurse Rachel detailed the extraordinary pressure nurses and NHS staff are being placed under.

She detailed the long 16-hour days, as well as shifts assessing as many as 20 patients an hour, which are getting "busier and longer" and are taking a gruelling toll on workers' family lives.
