Tom Lawrence out for Rangers until AFTER World Cup as Wales star's Qatar dream looks over

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has confirmed that Tom Lawrence is set to join John Souttar on the injury list that won't see a return until December at least.

The attack-minded midfielder started his career at the Light Blues following a move from Derby County in the summer but picked up an injury in their Premiership match with Ross County in August. He hasn't played since and now his boss has revealed he faces missing the next 12 matches for Rangers between now and November's break for Qatar 2022 after a fresh blow, ending his chances of making that tournament with Wales too.

Souttar is also facing a similar timescale after injury woe after his transfer to Rangers from Hearts while Filip Helander and Ianis Hagi remain side-lined long-term. A positive on the fitness front for van Bronckhorst is the return of Jamaican international striker Kemar Roofe to training but he can only be used domestically, having not been picked for their Champions League squad.

Van Bronckhorst said of Lawrence: " Tom Lawrence's recovery went on schedule but he sustained a new injury this week. We have to wait to see how long he'll be out but it will be longer term. Probably more months than weeks. I don't think we'll have him back before the World Cup."

A big night awaits Rangers as they take to Anfield to face Liverpool in their third Champions League Group A game on Tuesday.
