iciHaiti - Agriculture : Moving from pure and simple assistance to resilience
Abdoulaye Sawadogo of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) recently met with officials from the Ministry of Planning and External Cooperation to discuss some opportunities to boost agricultural production in the country.
According to Sawadogo, it is imperative that we find an adequate formula that can help move from pure and simple assistance to resilience through innovative solutions, including the creation of income-generating jobs in agriculture.
"Haiti is going through an extremely difficult situation in terms of food insecurity, particularly in the Great South, the Haitian authorities must address this issue to promote the delivery of aid by road."
For his part, Ricard Pierre, the Minister of Planning welcomed this initiative by OCHA, in this particularly difficult context.
According to Pierre, the Ministry of Planning is ready to play its full part in terms of maneuvers aimed at finding a better formula for food assistance.
