iciHaiti - Boat people : The Coast Guard repatriated 89 Haitians to Haiti
The US Coast Guard repatriated 89 Haitians in an irregular migration situation to Haiti aboard a dangerously overloaded boat, following an interception at sea.
The Coast Guard, Southeast Partners maintains a presence in the air and on the water to detect and deter migrants attempting to illegally enter the United States by sea.
"These voyages are not only illegal, but also incredibly dangerous," said Coast Guard Seventh District Lt. Matthew Miller, adding, "No one should risk their lives on unsafe rustic vessels, especially during adverse weather conditions in already unpredictable seas."
Since October 1st, 2022, Coast Guard crews have intercepted 5,089 Haitian migrants. Once aboard a Coast Guard vessel, all migrants receive food, water, shelter and basic medical care.
