The just ended African Road Maintenance Fund Association (ARMFA) 20th General Assembly which was held in Maputo, Mozambique from the 3rd of April to the 6th, 2023 brought together road fund administrators from the continent of Africa including Liberia.
This colorful event was officially opened by the President of Mozambique, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, the 3-day conference saw Liberia’s representative to the conference, Boniface D. Satu, Chief Executive Officer of the National Road Fund (NRF) showcasing the earth-shattering progress of Liberia in the administration of the National Road Fund.
Mr. Satu who served as one of the panelists during the conference, disclosed to his colleagues that the National Road Fund of Liberia during its services to the people of Liberia, Africa’s oldest Republic completed a revenue mobilization study on additional revenue generation approximately 10 to 15 million USD, noted that when implemented it will change the country’s entire road network.
Putting Liberia case on the international scene during the conference, the NRF Chief Executive said the NRF is providing additional revenue for maintenance, rehabilitation and new road construction. He noted that the road sector and the Liberian economy could benefit from approximately 40 to 50 million revenue infusion from road works annually.
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Satu said, sharing the Liberian experience successes, challenges, way forward after five years of operations. The role of African Road Maintenance Funds Association (Armfa) in strengthening members countries Navigate the political barriers and solicit support from government for sustainability of the funds.
According to Mr. Satu said, knowledge sharing and lessons learned in the successful establishment of the NRF in Liberia “Changing the road infrastructure narrative “ through adequate financing , road maintenance and rehabilitation, and. road connectivity is the key driver and delivery of economic and social development for economic growth of Liberia.
Day three of the conference saw the General Assembly Executive Committee Meeting Maputo, Mozambique “Adoption Of Resolutions “. Second Generation Funds Of All ARMFA 36 Members Countries With Support From World Bank, African Union And ECOWAS. “Autonomous Road Maintenance Funds”.
With all of these frantic efforts by the management team at NRF, critics are doing all to degrade the reputation of the Satu-led management team in its bid to supplement the efforts of the CDC-led government in the area of road connectivity nationwide.
